Bounce Pass
A pass that strikes the floor before reaching the receiver, useful for passing around defenders or into tight spaces.
Bounce Pass
The bounce pass is a fundamental passing technique used to deliver the ball to a teammate by bouncing it off the floor. It is especially useful for passing around defenders or into tight spaces where a direct pass may be intercepted. A good bounce pass will arrive at the receiver's waist level for easy catch.
How to Execute:
- Hold the ball with both hands, fingers spread comfortably behind the ball, elbows bent.
- Step towards your target with one foot, extending your arms forward and pushing the ball down towards the floor.
- Aim for a spot approximately two-thirds of the distance between you and your target.
- Follow through with your arms and wrists, ensuring the ball bounces up to your teammate's waist level.
Why it Matters:
The bounce pass provides an alternative passing option when a direct pass is not feasible. It allows players to pass around defenders, create passing lanes, and deliver the ball into congested areas. It also makes it harder for a defender to intercept the pass.
How Coaches Can Use It:
- Teach players to aim for the correct bounce point to ensure accurate delivery.
- Emphasize stepping towards the target for improved power and control.
- Incorporate passing drills that focus on passing around obstacles and into tight spaces.
- Encourage players to use the bounce pass when passing to cutters or feeding the post.
