Chest Pass

The chest pass is a fundamental passing technique used to deliver the ball quickly and accurately over short to medium distances. It is a two-handed pass that originates from the chest and is propelled forward with force and precision.

How to Execute:

  1. Hold the ball with both hands, fingers spread comfortably behind the ball, elbows bent, and the ball close to your chest.
  2. Step towards your target with one foot, extending your arms forward and pushing the ball out from your chest.
  3. Snap your wrists and follow through with your fingers pointing towards your target.
  4. Aim for your teammate's chest for easy reception.

Why it Matters:

The chest pass provides a direct and accurate means of delivering the ball to a teammate, facilitating quick offensive transitions and efficient ball movement. It is particularly effective in close quarters and when passing through tight defensive spaces.

How Coaches Can Use It:

  • Teach players the proper grip and stance for a consistent release.
  • Emphasize stepping towards the target for improved accuracy and power.
  • Incorporate passing drills that focus on speed, accuracy, and decision-making.
  • Encourage players to use the chest pass in fast-break situations and when passing to cutters.
