Two-Point Percentage (2P%)
The percentage of two-point field goal attempts that are successfully made.
Two-Point Percentage (2P%) isolates a player's shooting accuracy on shots taken inside the three-point line.
How to Calculate
2P% = Two-Point Field Goals Made / Two-Point Field Goals Attempted x 100
Why Track 2P% Separately?
Breaking down shooting by shot type gives coaches more actionable information than overall FG% alone. A player might have a mediocre overall FG% but be highly efficient around the basket. Or a player might have a solid FG% that masks poor finishing at the rim.
Benchmarks
Two-point percentage is typically higher than three-point percentage because shots are taken closer to the basket. In professional basketball, the league average 2P% is around 52-53%. For youth basketball, coaches should focus on improvement trends rather than hitting specific numbers.
Coaching Applications
If a player's 2P% is significantly below their teammates, it may indicate issues with finishing technique, shot selection near the basket, or difficulty finishing through contact. These are all areas that can be addressed through targeted practice drills.
